OPEN CELL SPRAY FOAM INSULATION (1/2 pound)
Open cell spray foam is a lower density, nonstructural insulation with an R-Value of around R-3.75 per inch. It is not considered to provide a vapour barrier and should never be applied below grade.
CLOSED CELL SPRAY FOAM INSULATION (2 pound)
2lb closed cell spray polyurethane foam boasts superior performance due to its high R-Value per inch and is a complete moisture/vapour/air barrier. It expands to adhere to irregular surfaces and gets into tiny cracks, crevices, and minor imperfections. This air-sealing property makes it ideal for basements, crawl spaces, overhangs, cathedral ceilings, rim joists – the list goes on! The seal provided by 2lb closed cell insulation prevents dust, mold, and other allergens from entering and can even improve a building’s structural strength by up to 400%.
BLOWN-IN INSULATION
Although closed-cell foam is by far the best insulation product on the market, if your home was built before 2012, chances are you could benefit from an attic top-up with blown-in fibre glass or cellulose. At only about R-2 to R-4 per inch, you need a properly installed, thick layer to achieve good thermal resistance. It does not provide a seal. However, this is a cost-effective way to reduce heat transfer. Liam and his crew can install loose-fill fibre glass or cellulose on top of on your existing insulation. This is a quick, easy and cost-effective way to start reducing your bills and improving the comfort of your home.
